Take a memorable look at the Block Seminar Week on Wind Power Technology

VIETSE collaborated with GIZ to successfully organize the 1st Block Seminar Week on “Introduction to wind power technology, grid integration, forecasting, electrical engineering”. The Block seminar on wind power technology took place from 15-19/2021, between 13:30 to 18:00 on the Microsoft Teams platform. The seminar provided updated information and knowledge as well as in-depth discussion on wind power technology, new development trends of wind power and offshore wind power globally and potential of Vietnam in this sector; development stages of wind power and offshore wind power; aspect of wind power technology; integration to power grid as well as wind power capacity estimation.

Let’s review the outstanding content through each day of the block seminar.

Opening day of Wind Power Technology Webinar

Mrs. Vu Chi Mai – Manager of “The Clean, Affordable and Secure Energy for Southeast Asia (CASE)” project opened the event with a brief overview of the CASE project’s goals as well as the objectives of the block seminar.

Ms. Liming Qiao – Head of GWEC Asia presented on “Global Perspective on Wind Development – Policy Recommendations for Vietnam” and explained why offshore wind power is the future energy technology for Vietnam.

Ms. Ngo Thi To Nhien – CEO of VIETSE presented a comprehensive picture of the power industry as well as the potentials for offshore wind power development in Vietnam through a presentation on “Wind Energy Development in Vietnam”.

Mr. Thiago Domingues – Chief Engineer of Equinor Renewable, through his presentation on “Overview of Offshore Wind Technology”, presented an overview of the technical issues of offshore wind technology as well as potential supply chain analyses for offshore wind power development in Vietnam.

Continue to the second day – Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Hong Phuong – Lecturer of grid integration at Eindhoven University of Technology, through the presentation on “Integrating wind power into the power system”, gave a general introduction about the ability to integrate wind electricity into Vietnam’s grid system as well as illustrated several case studies for the grid integration of wind power to consider the feasibility study in Vietnam.

Ms. Ngo Thi To Nhien detailed the roadmap for offshore wind power development in Vietnam, including classification of domestic supply chains, assessment of supply chain formation capabilities and give recommendations for offshore wind power development in Vietnam through her presentation on “The potential for development of domestic supply chains for offshore wind energy in Vietnam”

On the third day of seminar – Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Hong Phuong gave a detailed presentation on “Smart grid technologies to support wind power integration” giving some typical examples of problems occurring in power grid systems in Europe and Vietnam, advanced control technologies for grids and grid-supported inverters, introducing the mainstream AI applications in power systems and how to build algorithms along with new power storage technologies.

Dr. Do Minh Thang, Head of Energy Department at Meteodyn, explained the importance of wind power output forecasting in wind power management as well as introduced Meteodyn’s wind power output estimating system and some practical examples, thus people will have a more typical view of the wind power output forecasting process through “Wind power output estimation” speech.

For the whole session of the fourth day, Dr. Nguyen Duc Tuyen, Power System Lecturer of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, gave an in-depth presentation on “Wind power engineering”

In the first part of the speech, Dr. Nguyen Duc Tuyen showed a detailed illustration of wind turbine components and their specifications, wind power’s structural along with environmental safety issues, reliability of wind turbines and lightning protection standards for them. At the end of the presentation, Dr. Nguyen Duc Tuyen analyzed the purpose and importance of wind measurement on-site as well as expressed his insights about the potential for the development of distributed renewable energy sources through the introduction of the small wind power system.

The final day of the seminar

The final presentation of Dr. Nguyen Duc Tuyen on “Generators, transformers and inverters” introduced types of generators, wind turbine generator modeling, optimizing capacity operation methods, system control design and generator drive system. Dr. Nguyen Duc Tuyen also explained the necessity of using energy storage systems to increase the flexibility of the wind power generation system, the transmission of electricity to the mainland and transformer introduction.

We send our deepest attitude to the delegates for attending our 1st Block Seminar and we hope to see you again at the 2nd Block Seminar with In-depth topics on wind power technology: Installation, Maintenance and Operation. The 2nd seminar is expected to be organized at the beginning of 2022. Detail information will be sent to you as soon as possible via registered email.
